VSU Library Collection Enriched with Valuable Scholarly Literature

The library collection of “Vanadzor State University after H. Tumanyan” Foundation has been supplemented with new specialised literature, contributing to the enrichment of the university’s educational and scientific environment. The valuable donation of books was made by Ruben Melkonyan, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Professor, who also teaches part-time in the Chair of History at VSU.

Among the donated books are scholarly works authored by Ruben Melkonyan, including the book “The Theme of the Armenian Genocide in Contemporary Turkish Literature.” The donation also includes co-authored works and books by other authors, published within the framework of scholarly initiatives of the YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies.

The donation is of particular importance for the effective delivery of the course “Nationalism and Islamism in Modern Turkey” in the master’s programme of the Chair of History. The new literature will enable students to draw on up-to-date scholarly sources, deepen their professional knowledge and study the political and ideological processes of modern Turkey more comprehensively.

It is noteworthy that the course was included in the master’s programme of the Chair of History in 2025, as a result of discussions with university graduates and external stakeholders. The initiative was grounded in the need to teach Turkology-oriented subjects in the Chair of History. Recognising the value of this proposal, the university included the new course in the educational programme, and Professor Ruben Melkonyan undertook to deliver it. Despite his professional commitments, he accepted the university’s offer to share his knowledge and experience with students.

Artur Melikyan, Head of the Chair of History at VSU, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Associate Professor, expressed particular gratitude for the valuable donation of books, emphasising its importance for replenishing the university library’s collection and for raising the quality of students’ professional education.

This donation of books is another important step towards enriching the university’s educational and scientific environment, contributing to the improvement of students’ professional preparation and to access to up-to-date scholarly literature.
