The Day of Book Giving at “Vanadzor State University after H.Tumanyan” Foundation
On February 19, the birthday of Hovhannes Tumanyan, which also coincides with the Day of Book Giving, a special event was held at the “Vanadzor State University after H. Tumanyan” Foundation, dedicated to the promotion of books and the culture of reading. The event, organized by the University Library, was attended by faculty members, staff, students, as well as guests from the university and Vanadzor State College.
The attendees listened to a lecture titled “This Magical Master of Speech and Conversation” by Mary Hakobyan, a research fellow at the Stepan Zoryan House-Museum and an alumna of the university. During her lecture, Ms. Hakobyan answered questions from the audience, emphasizing the invaluable contributions of two prominent figures from Lori — Hovhannes Tumanyan and Stepan Zoryan — to Armenian literature, and highlighting their immense role in shaping the thinking and value systems of successive generations.
Following this, Tereza Shahverdyan, Doctor of Philological Sciences and Professor, presented a discussion on the literary legacy of Hovhannes Tumanyan.
During the event, the university administration presented certificates of appreciation to active readers — Sirarpi Arakelyan (specialization in “Armenian Language and Literature”, 5th year) and Erik Sargsyan (specialization in “Fine Arts”, 4th year).
Additionally, an exhibition titled “Book as a Gift” was organized in the reading hall, showcasing antique and rare books from the university library.
In conclusion, the Head of the Library, G. Gaboyan, once again congratulated the attendees, expressed gratitude, and presented a book to Milena Atikyan, a 4th-year student of “Armenian Language and Literature,” for her excellent organization of the event.
