Scientific and Methodological Seminar: “Changes in the Species Composition of Understory Vegetation in the Forested Areas of Lori Region Amid Global Climate Change”
On May 29, Doctor of Biological Sciences and Professor Zarui Vardanyan held a scientific and methodological seminar at Vanadzor State University on the topic “Changes in the Species Composition of Understory Vegetation in the Forested Areas of Lori Region Amid Global Climate Change.”
Z. Vardanyan presented data on the current average temperature increase, the projected temperature rise in Vanadzor for the period 2020–2050, and precipitation levels, as well as the observed and ongoing temperature increases across all seasons in the Lori Region over the past 50 years. She discussed changes in the species composition of the understory vegetation in Lori, linked to climate change, the consequences of large-scale deforestation in the 1990s, and the processes of natural forest regeneration over the past 30 years.
She also presented the dominant plant species currently found in the understory of the forested areas surrounding Vanadzor.
