Lesson-discussion at VSU
A Lecturer of «Vanadzor State University named after H. Tumanyan» Foundation, an Associate Professor of the Chair of Mathematics and Computer Science, Candidate of Technical Sciences Nune Khublaryan completed the teaching of the subject «Data Fundamentals» with an interesting lesson format, generalizing the mastered material. This lesson was organized for fourth-year students of the Chair of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics.
On 25.12.2024, an open lesson was organized within the framework of this course, during which the students presented the completed assignments. As N. Khublaryan noted, the difficulty lies in the fact that in parallel with the interpretation of the material, she worked with each student individually, since each of the students had their own problem of varying complexity and depth. This is the beauty and complexity of project-based learning. The lecturer had to rationally distribute the lectures in order to have time to present the material, discuss projects, highlight typical mistakes and individual shortcomings, and work with each student within 24 lectures and 30 hours of lab work. The course follows an interesting logic that has a project format: the student studies the theoretical material, delves into the subject area of the problem s/he has chosen, creates tables, fills them with fields, assigns various attributes, forms links between tables, brings them into compliance with the requirements of normalization, forms conceptual links (by the way, this is one of the most difficult stages of the process), compiles queries in MS Access and SQL environments, groups and places all this in a hierarchical format of button selection. The last scheme is compiled as realistically as possible and is close to the working state. The lesson was lively and productive, the event — successful and informative.
