HOVHANNES TUMANYAN’S 155TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED AT VANADZOR STATE UNIVERSITY

For the Armenian people, February 19 is a significant day since it is Hovhannes Tumanyan’s 155th anniversary. One of the first people in Armenian reality to consistently bring up the subject of the necessity of having a university in Armenia was Tumanyan. Thus, under the roof of the university named after the great writer, we commemorated his 155th birth anniversary.

As a welcoming performance Argishti Vardanyan acted a part from the play “Immortal Tumanyan”.

To better acquaint those in attendance with H. Tumanyan’s life and literary endeavors, the Chair of Armenian Language and Literature held a quiz.

The third-year students’ team emerged victorious in a quiz. The team members received prizes from Mariya Brutyan, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, while the second-year students received gifts from Hermine Baburyan, Head of the Chair of Armenian Language and Literature. A set of conference materials honoring Hovhannes Tumanyan’s 155th anniversary was awarded to the second-year students’ team as a special reward by the Vanadzor State University Library.

Since Hovhannes Tumanyan’s birthday is also known as Book Giving Day, the Faculty of Humanities arranged a delightful surprise in the university hall at the end of the event: each of the participants chose a gift book based on their interests.
