Winners of the VSU “Rector’s Cup” Mini-football Championship
The final match and awards ceremony of the “Rector’s Cup” intramural futsal championship of the VSU took place at the complex sports school “Kentron” named after Albert Azaryan on January 18.
This year’s competition featured five teams made up of students from the faculties of the humanitarian, natural and social sciences as well as the students from the college and basic high school.
According to Zaven Evoyan, lecturer at the Chair of Arts and Sports, “after a long break, the goal of the mini-football championship “Rector’s Cup” was to restore the sports traditions of the university, motivate students for a healthy lifestyle and an active sports life.”
Rustam Saakyan, the Rector of the University and Arman Barseghyan, Head of the Chair of Arts and Sports highlighted the fact that such sports events encourage a successful participation of the VSU students in various inter-university championships.
As a result of the five-day competition, the best teams and the best players became known. Artur Manukyan, an athlete of the Faculty of Social Sciences majoring in Physical Education and Sports Training, won the title of the “Best Defender”, Razmik Hovhannisyan, an athlete of the VSU College was recognized as the “Best Goalkeeper”, and Alex Makaryan, an athlete of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, won the title of “Best Forward”. The latter received gifts and certificates from the university.
The team of the VSU College took the third place, the team of the Faculty of Natural Sciences took the second place, the team of the specialty “Physical Education and Sports Training” of the Faculty of Social Sciences took the first place, winning the Rector’s Cup. All the other teams were awarded with the letters of appreciation for their active participation in the championship.
