- S. Ghambaryan received an excellent education at Moscow and several leading European universities. He was a Doctor of Law, a Professor, and one of the best experts in civil law in Russia. He successfully combined his scientific work with teaching and lectured for many years at the universities of Odessa, Moscow, and Brussels, the International School of Paris, and the Polytechnic Institutes of St. Petersburg and Tbilisi. In 1901, together with M. M. Kovalevsky, he founded the Russian Higher School of Social Sciences in Paris, where he was a permanent professor.
Upon returning to his homeland in 1906, Y. S. Ghambaryan actively participated in the formation of political Freemasonry in Russia at the initiative of M. M. Kovalevsky. He was a high-ranking Freemason and a member of the Parisian “Cosmos” Lodge No. 288, as well as the Russian lodges “Phoenix”, “Polar Star”, “Renaissance”, and the Masonic organization “Grand Orient of the Peoples of Russia”.
- S. Ghambaryan was also a skilled education organizer. He played a crucial role in the establishment and development of the Tiflis Polytechnic Institute and the University of Armenia.
