The article substantiates that the foundation of developing special endurance is general endurance. To develop the latter, it is necessary to use a series of exercises performed with prolonged duration and high load. On the other hand, for developing special endurance, exercises must be performed at high speed, while the total length of running segments or accelerations should exceed the distance in which the runner specializes. It was found that the most crucial factor in developing special endurance is increasing running speed over a given distance to create a speed reserve. This allows the athlete to cover the distance with less effort and at a higher average speed. The essence of the research was to identify rational methods and approaches for structuring the training process to develop the special endurance of sprinters specializing in the 400-meter run. The training process was structured based on the interval method of developing special endurance, incorporating medical-pedagogical monitoring of athletes’ condition and methods for restoring work capacity. Thus, preparing athletes is a complex task requiring a systematic approach that considers multiple factors. It represents a comprehensive methodological framework, ensuring optimal interaction between organizational forms and training conditions, based on specific principles, to achieve the highest level of athlete preparedness for top sporting achievements.
