Exhibition of Armenian Type Designer Edik Ghabuzyan at Vanadzor State University
On September 17, Vanadzor State University hosted an exhibition by Armenian type designer and lecturer at the State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia, Edik Ghabuzyan.
The Acting Rector of Vanadzor State University, Rustam Saakyan, delivered an opening speech. In his speech, he referred to Edik Ghabuzyan as a legend of Armenian typography, emphasizing:“The exhibition was organized so that the younger generation could become acquainted with a scientist who lives and creates alongside us, our fellow citizen.”
Speeches were also delivered by Vardges Keshishyan and Edik Ghabuzyan. Within the framework of the event, Mr. Ghabuzyan held an engaging lecture on typography for students of the Informatics and Applied Mathematics specialty.
Edik Ghabuzyan has designed and developed more than 300 Armenian typefaces. He is the author of the album “Armenian Computer Fonts” and the founder of “Granshan”, the annual international competition for non-Latin typefaces. His typefaces “GHEA Mariam” and “GHEA Grapalat” were adopted by the Government of Armenia, by a decision dated September 24, as the mandatory official fonts for government correspondence, presented in four styles.
Today’s exhibition became an important occasion to value the traditions of national typography and to inspire the younger generation to discover and appreciate the creative path of a great master of contemporary Armenian type design.
