The Unified Significance of Barekendan, Trndez, and Celebrations of Love at Vanadzor State University

The February festivities at Vanadzor State University were transformed into a celebration of national traditions and love under one roof.

Barekendan and Trndez were celebrated in the university yard in a spirit of collective festivity.

On the occasion of Bun Barekendan, students from various faculties prepared distinctive festive tables, while participants gathered around the traditional Trndez bonfire, joining in a unified circle dance.

In attendance of the events were the Rector of the University, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Armen Tsaturyan; the Rector’s Advisor, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Garegin Karhanyan; members of the academic staff and students.

The rich cultural program featured performances by the university’s “Adelas” dance group and the “Biaina” choir. The event was also honored by the presence of Jivan Sargsyan, founder of the Vanadzor Poetry Theatre and recipient of the Movses Khorenatsi Medal.

A thought-provoking explanation of the theme of love was presented through a video, in which faculty members shared their reflections on love. This was followed by a speech by Gayane Papyan, Associate Professor at the Chair of Armenian Language and Literature and Candidate of Philological Sciences, who defined the profound meaning of love through the lens of literature.

Particular interest was also given to the reading of anonymous love letters, a tradition that has become a hallmark of the event.

At the conclusion of the event, Rector Armen Tsaturyan awarded certificates of honor to the faculties that had prepared the traditional festive tables for Bun Barekendan.
