Artificial intelligence has fundamentally transformed the teaching of English as a foreign language (EFL) by offering a personalized, efficient, and accessible learning experience in this field. Although artificial intelligence has existed as a concept for a long time, its integration into education – especially since 2023 – has accelerated rapidly, providing tools that complement the learning process rather than replace teachers. In EFL instruction, AI takes into account the diverse needs and demands of students by delivering tailored materials, instant feedback, and engaging conversational scenarios. Personalized learning has become a significant achievement made possible through artificial intelligence. Instant feedback is another important innovation. Rapid feedback contributes to increased student confidence. The simulation of conversational situations provides learners with a safe environment for practicing speaking skills. Despite the advantages outlined above, the integration of AI into the EFL education system is accompanied by a number of challenges. These include ethical issues, such as algorithmic bias in the assessment of students’ speech, risks related to data privacy breaches, and excessive reliance on AI tools, which may hinder the development of learner autonomy. In addition, access to advanced features of platforms such as ChatGPT often requires a paid subscription, which creates unequal conditions among learners.
