Summary
Key words: neologism, compounding, affixation, word-formative step, copying, partial copying
New words are natural continuation of the developing linguistic system through which society responds to the demands of the contemporary world. They reflect the tastes of the era, value systems, cultural priorities, as well as the flexibility of the language and its ability to adapt to changing realities. Social structures can promote the acceptance and spread of new words; however, their success is ultimately determined by their usability among the public.
The conducted study showed that although the words meghr (honey) and meghu (bee) have ancient origins, they continue to participate actively in the formation of new words and development of the vocabulary in modern Armenian through word compounding, affixation, and translation (both direct copying and partial copying).
These words have particular significance, especially in literary translation, as they can greatly influence the quality of translation and a reader’s perception, emphasizing a translator’s style, one’s creative and analytical approach, sense of humor, taste, and other aspects.
