REFLECTIONS ON EQUIVALENCE OF ARTISTIC TRANSLATION

While examining the problem of the equivalence of a literary text, the most accurate perception and presentation of linguo-stylistic techniques acquire special importance, as they contribute to the transmission of the conceptual context, that is, to the preservation of the cognitive- functional value of the original.

In order to achieve a high-quality artistic translation, the translator needs appropriate scientific-linguistic knowledge, creativity, originality and no less important, aesthetic taste. We mainly consider the problem of translation equivalence not only from a practical, but also from a theoretical perspective, for our task has always been and remains not only the possible closest correspondence of the living text, but also the theoretical discussions on it.

When considering the problem of artistic translation in a broad way, it’s quite necessary to emphasize and verify the originality of the source text, which is closely related to the worldview of the author of the original text, reflecting the complete picture and perceptions of his environment, as well as his aesthetic taste. Along with this the national image of the translated text, the logic, the emotional level of the characters should be evaluated.

Translation equivalence is the commonality or semantic closeness of the content of the original and the translation, which is nothing but the semantic affinity of the original and the translation
