In the works of Russian literature (L. Tolstoy, V. Shishkov, I. Ehrenberg, S. Zlobin, etc.), a gallery of memorable images of Bashkirs has been created, which comprehensively show different facets of the Bashkir national character through the eyes of a representative of another nation. The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the image of the Bashkir national character in the linguistic and cultural aspect. The object of the study was the image of Salavat Yulaev. The material was S. Zlobin’s novel “Salavat Yulaev”, in which the writer presented the image of the freedom-loving, courageous, selfless, creatively gifted Salavat Yulaev, who embodied the dominant features of the Bashkir national character.
