Word Formation with the Foreign Compounds agr(o)-, ec(o)-, en(o)- in Armenian

Today, agriculture is booming. Agricultural sub-branches and specialties are being created; consequently, concepts arise to describe and characterize new words. The formations with foreign compounds agr(o)—, ec(o)—, en(o)— contribute to the enrichment of agricultural scientific vocabulary, used in agriculture and related spheres and create interdisciplinary terminological system. In Armenian the agr(o)- compound is used as a component of a compound word or in the sense of village, land, while ec(o)- in the sense of home, homeland, and existence, and en(o)- wine. New words and terms with compounds agr(o)—, ec(o)—, and en(o)— are constantly entering the vocabulary of our language. Sometimes corresponding Armenian words are created for them, although it is not so easy to make Armenian terms. Due attention must be paid to the peculiarities and characteristics of the sphere. Ագրոմինիմում, ագրոմաքսիմում, էկոտրանսպորտ, էկոբրիկետ, էնոլոգ, էնոլոգիա and etc. are loanwords. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that one day they may be armenianized by semantic borrowing or partly loan translation. Ագրոնոմիա – գյուղատնտեսություն, ագրոկոմպլեքս – ագրոհամալիր, էկոնոմիստ – տնտեսագետ, էկոնոմիկա – տնտեսություն, էկոտուրիզմ – էկոզբոսաշրջություն and other Armenian versions of word pairs can be considered as acceptable, as they have won the battle between a foreign analog and its Armenian equivalent. The same trend is also observed in the following words էնոլոգ – գինեգետ, էնոլոգիա – գինեգիտություն, էնոքիմիա – գինեքիմիա, էնոտուրիզմ – էնոզբոսաշրջություն —գինեզբոսաշրջություն. The analysis of “New Words” dictionary, issues 1-7 shows that at the current stage of the language development, the abovementioned compounds form words by partly loan translation, e.g. ագրոլրատու, ագրոշուկա, էկոանձնագիր, էկոգյուղ, էկոլուր, էկոգինի and etc. There are also examples of the use of similar words in Internet, which haven’t been included in dictionaries yet. For example, ագրոայգի, ագրոբարիք, ագրոդասարան, ագրոզրույց, էկոկաշի, էկոհղիություն, էկոընթրիք, էնոլոգ, էնոլոգիա, էնոգաստրոնոմիա and etc.
